Re: ARERR [8760] Cannot establish a network connection to the AR System Plug-In server : BMC.FILTERAPI.NORM.ENGINE
Product
BMC Atrium CMDB Enterprise Manager (version 7.5.00); BMC Action Request System 7.5;
BMC Service Impact Manager (version 7.3.00)
Environment
DR: BMC Atrium Core; Server: AIX 5.x; Client: Windows XP; HW: Pentium; Language: English-USA; Database:
Sybase 12.5.x; GUI: Hummingbird; Browser: Firefox 1.5;
Solution
This has been identified as AR Server 7.5 defect SW00326538 (SW00326830 is a duplicate).
While installing AR Server 7.5 patch 1 as an upgrade of AR Server 7.5 no patch, the installer
creates an armonitor.cfg.backup then replaces several lines in armonitor.conf specific to
the java path for the Atrium engine which is causing the issue.
This is an example of an armonitor after applying patch 1 which causes the plugin error with
two paths (these are highlighted in red to assist you in finding them):
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xmx512m -classpath "C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar"
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x bmc-itsm -i "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" -m
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java" -Xmx512m -classpath "C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr;C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem\pluginsvr\arpluginsvr75.jar"
com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x bmc-itsm -i "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem" -m
To correct this problem, locate the armonitor.cfg.backup and find the path to the
BMCAtriumCoreInstallJVM\bin\java:
"C:\Program Files\BMC Software\AtriumCore\bmc-itsm\BMCAtriumCoreInstallJVM\bin\java" -Xmx512m -

com.bmc.arsys.pluginsvr.ARPluginServerMain -x bmc-itsm -i "C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem"
Copy the two lines from the armonitor.cfg.backup in their entirety, open the armonitor.cfg,
paste the two lines in place of the old lines and save the file. You'll need to restart AR Server
for the corrected path to be read
Note: This issue can also impact the SME - the Service Model Editor that is used by the
Impact Solutions product line, because it creates CIs in the CMDB and can trigger
normalization.
