The following errors in are showing up in the arerror.log. What is the "Override
option" and why do some users have it and others do not?

Overide Option Empty Re: Overide Option

Post  giby.varghese@gmail.com Fri Jun 11, 2010 12:05 pm

We introduced a new restriction in the 6.0 server. Non admin users cannot connect to the server from multiple
machines at the same time. If the user attempts a connection from a second machine within 15 minutes of
starting the first one, the new connection will be rejected. If he attempts a connection from another machine 15
minutes or more after starting the first session, he will be given an option to terminate the first connection and
take over from the second machine. This is called the override.
The following example will help to explain this:
- Lets say user X starts a User tool session with a server from machine A at 12:00PM. This is the only session he
has going with the server, so he can connect successfully.
- Now he tries to open another user tool connection from machine B, connecting to the same server, at 12:05PM.
- Since he is already connected from machine A, this second connection will be rejected. He will get a message
saying user is already connected from another machine. This is what you see in the log :
Wed Sep 15 08:21:45 2004 Client already connected - username:mitchellke client-type:3 original-
IP:10.20.30.70 new-IP:10.20.30.60 - Override is not allowed.
- The only way for him to connect from machine B right now is to close his session from machine A.
- Now lets say the user does not end his session from A, and waits for another 11 minutes, and tries to
connected again from machine B at 12:16 PM.
- Since more than 15 minutes have passed since he started his session from machine A, he is now given an option to override his connection from machine A. This is when you see the log :
Tue Sep 14 18:16:49 2004 Client already connected - username:laymanm client-type:3 original-
IP:10.20.30.50 new-IP:10.20.30.40 - User has Override option.
- If he does not choose to override, his primary session will remain A, and he will not be able to work from B.
- If he does choose to override, then B becomes the primary session, and the user can now work from B. But he
cannot work from A now.
- If he tries to connect from A before 12:31 (15 minutes), he will be told he cannot connect since he already has
a session going from another machine.
- If he wants to connect from A again, he can either end his session from B, or wait another 15 minutes before
he is allowed to connect from A.
